Honor Band Information

 I encourage you to participate in as many honor bands as possible. They vary in the number of days, the number of participants, the type of band, the cost, the audition and location. Many are sponsored by a college or university. These are great opportunities to become familiar with college campuses and their respective music programs. It also improves the quality of our own band for you to experience these events.

District Honor Band – auditions are Sat. Dec. 12^th at South Paulding High School

The three day event will be held Feb. 11^th  through the 13^th at Heritage High School in Ringgold, Ga.

   The audition for this honor band requires playing memorized scales/arpeggios, extended chromatic scale, prepared etude and sight reading. You should begin to prepare NOW if you’d like to audition for this. The prepared etudes will be available on-line in late August. I recommend you take several private lessons to prepare for this audition.

Reinhardt College Honor Winds Clinic, Friday/Saturday   Feb. 19-20 in Canton, Georgia

Selection will be based on your resume and director’s nomination. Audition when you arrive includes “all major scales and arpeggios”.  The clinician for this year’s event is composer Robert W. Smith. This honor band clinic has been extremely enjoyable to those students who have attended in the past. Fee for the event is $65 plus hotel and food. Hotel fee varies dependent upon the number of guys and girls participating. We will only spend one night. Application deadline is some time in late December of early January. It is not posted at this time.

Jacksonville State University Honor Band -  Jacksonville, ALA – May 6-8

This event runs Thursday through Saturday. The fee of $135 includes food and lodging for the weekend. Students will stay in the dorms on campus and will eat in the campus cafeteria. We’ve had students participate in this event for the past two years and they’ve really enjoyed it. The audition is a chromatic scale slurred up, tongued down, memorized and sight reading.  The range is posted on their website. Application is due March 1.
