Welcome to the website of the Heard County High School Band! We’ve all recovered from our annual marching band camp which took place July 27-31. At the suggestion of the seniors, we ran this year’s band camp from  1pm-9pm rather than the traditional 8am-5pm. That worked out GREAT for us. We didn’t have to battle with dew on the field and the extreme heat of the day.  We spent most of the day time hours in sectionals and music rehearsals. We had to work around the weather a bit, but most of our outside time was later in the day. We even got to practice in the stadium some!  We hired an amazing staff to work with the band for camp. Wow. What a tremendous difference it made to have so much help! Hired staff included Devin Lacy, Taylor Bowen, Corrine Flamm and Ray Duncan. The seniors really wanted to “raise the bar” for the band. Well, it has been raised. Now, the student leaders have to step up and help Mrs. Barnard, Mrs. Leigh and I keep it going!

Special thanks to the Nichol family for hosting the pool party at the conclusion of band camp. We needed some fun, chill out time to unwind and just hang out. It was a blast!

A trip to the Chic-Fil-A Bowl is planned for the band.  This will include participation in the parade and the pre-game and half-time performances at the game. The game will be held on December 31 at the Georgia Dome. The cost per child for marching band members is $180. We will have several fund raisers this fall to try to knock down that price per student a little at a time. In a few weeks, we will have a giant fund raiser in the Community Birthday Calendar. Each student will make $5 per calendar that they sell. This fund raiser “belonged to the band” for many years. It’s a great tradition I’d like to bring back.

I hope you will look around this website as it’s full of very important information as well as a lot of fun stuff to look at!

Looking forward to a great year!

Hello everybody!  I’m very excited about being the band director at Heard County High School. Mrs. Jaime Barnard will be the new middle school band director and will be the assistant director of the high school band.  She is equally excited!

We’ve already had a great start to our year and school hasn’t even started yet! The Summer Jam sessions have given us a head start on our music and the guard a chance to become familiar with spinning rifles. It’s VERY important that students practice their horns and spin their flags and rifles between now and band camp. This will prevent getting sore and having your chops give out early. You should even start to memorize your music.

I’ve had successful meetings with various students, coaches, parents and many others who are very excited about the upcoming season!  With our new school and new stadium, we have the opportunity to start some new traditions. I can’t wait for it all to start happening! Enjoy the rest of your summer-practice your horn-see you on July 27!
